Nigerians Urged to Emulate Somalia by Electing More Women Leaders

Nigerians need to follow the example of Somalia by electing more women leaders to parliament and other positions of power.

Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman issued this call earlier today.

Prof. Sulaiman, a former Minister of National Planning and the Director General of the Nigeria Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, commended Somalia for making such huge strides.

In the elections carried out last year, Somalis voted for a higher number of women leaders.

The country now has 14 women lawmakers out of a parliament that has 54 legislators. This represents 25.93 percent of the parliamentary seats.

On the other hand, Nigeria has 3.67 percent of women representation in the Senate.

According to Prof. Sulaiman, Somalia set an example that is worth being emulated in Nigeria.
