The Director-General of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) traveled to Ethiopia on a benchmarking visit.
DG Abdiweli Timacade was in Addis Ababa on Friday for a meeting with Yodahe A. Zemichael, his Ethiopian counterpart.
Zemichael is the Executive Director of the National ID Program of Ethiopia.
During their Friday meeting, Timacade and Zemichael agreed on the importance of their preliminary experience-sharing mission.
Particularly, Timacade added that he was in Ethiopia to learn from the country’s implementation of the digital ID system.
Somalia is on the verge of implementing a similar system.
It is scheduled to launch the digital National Identity System in September 2023.
