MOGADISHU, Somalia – The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has effectively disrupted a perilous Al-Shabaab network, detaining 11 suspects accused of scheming terrorist acts and espionage against the government and civilians.
Security officials announced in a statement today that the operation struck a hidden cell operating in the capital Mogadishu and adjacent areas of Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle. The detained individuals were said to be in late stages of preparing terror strikes and collecting intelligence to enable attacks.
The detentions resulted from a refined, intelligence-driven campaign. NISA personnel, equipped with vital details on the group’s actions and objectives, carried out a synchronized operation to eliminate the danger. Authorities indicated that the suspects were located and captured separately, with some apprehended in the midst of terrorism-linked offenses.
The Federal Government of Somalia has stepped up its campaign against elements threatening peace, employing stronger intelligence tools to foil plots before execution.
NISA reports that all 11 suspects remain in custody under interrogation. They will be handed to relevant judicial bodies for complete prosecution on charges of offenses against the country.
