Hiiraan, Somalia – In a targeted security operation, Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) successfully neutralized seven Al-Shabaab militants in the Buulo-Xoog area, located under Buq-Aqabke village in the Hiiraan region.
The planned operation, carried out with precision, struck a known Al-Shabaab hideout, disrupting a suspected cell that was actively planning attacks against civilian and military targets in central Somalia. According to officials, intelligence-led surveillance and community cooperation enabled NISA to corner the militants without any reported casualties among the security forces.
This latest operation is part of an ongoing offensive by Somali national forces, supported by local communities and regional allies, aimed at uprooting Al-Shabaab from its remaining strongholds in Hirshabelle and other regions. The Hiiraan region, particularly, has witnessed a surge in both military action and militant retaliation as government forces push deeper into insurgent-held areas.
Authorities hailed the success of the operation as another blow to the militant group’s dwindling presence in central Somalia. Security officials reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining pressure on the group until peace and stability are restored.
NISA urged local residents to continue sharing information to help thwart future attacks, emphasizing that community support remains a critical pillar in the broader national counterterrorism effort.
