MOGADISHU — The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), conducting highly synchronized precision operations alongside international security partners, has successfully eliminated two senior commanders within the Kharijite [Al-Shabaab] network.
Neutralizing Logistical and International Links
According to federal security agencies, the strategic operations were carried out across the Middle Juba and Lower Shabelle regions. The strikes deliberately targeted and destroyed critical leadership elements responsible for international terror coordination and domestic suicide missions. This focused decapitation operation significantly impairs the operational mobility and logistical capabilities of the militant organization.
The most recent engagement occurred on March 19, taking place in the contested geographical corridor between the Kuunyo Barrow area and the Jilib district. During this precision operation, intelligence and strike teams neutralized Abdihamid Ali Abdullahi Maalim. This high-value target served as the primary link connecting the domestic insurgency with broader international terrorist syndicates. Intelligence reports confirm that Abdihamid was directly responsible for the illegal acquisition and smuggling of advanced weaponry and explosive materials into the republic, acting as a central logistical architect for the group’s asymmetrical attacks.
Dismantling the Suicide Bomber Command
A preceding surgical strike executed on March 15 in the Ugunji area of Lower Shabelle resulted in the immediate elimination of Suleyman Omar Fidow, a notorious operative known within militant circles by multiple aliases, including Faruq, Mohamed Abdullahi, and Ali Said. This targeted action closely parallels broader recent offensives in Lower Shabelle that have resulted in mass militant casualties and the liberation of key territories.
Suleyman operated as the supreme commander of the Kharijite suicide bomber divisions and had previously overseen the group’s intelligence wing. At the time of his elimination, he was being positioned to assume absolute command of the explosives and militant indoctrination divisions—a vacancy created after national security forces eliminated the former explosives chief, Engineer Ismail, in a localized strike in December of the previous year.
According to the Ministry of Information, these systematic eliminations of top-tier commanders vividly demonstrate the Federal Government’s assertive and continuous offensive aimed at dismantling the structural hierarchy of terrorist networks operating within Somalia. By consistently removing experienced tacticians from the battlefield, NISA and its international allies are actively fragmenting the command-and-control capabilities of the militants, paving the way for the total stabilization of the affected regions.
