NISA to Accelerate Counterterrorism Efforts in HirShabelle

On Friday, the Director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe, met with HirShabelle’s Deputy Leader, military officials, and local leaders in Moqokori, Hiiraan region. The discussions focused on strengthening security and accelerating counter-terrorism efforts, with Director Sanbaloolshe emphasizing NISA’s comprehensive plans to enhance stability in HirShabelle, particularly in Middle Shabelle.

This meeting aligns with ongoing efforts by Somali officials to mediate conflicts and promote unity in the region. For instance, in December 2024, Hiiraan Governor Muse Salad Wehliye, alongside HirShabelle State Minister of Justice Mahad Beyle and Somali armed forces officers, successfully mediated an end to inter-clan fighting on the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions. The warring Hawadle and Abgaal clans agreed to cease hostilities and unite against the shared threat of Al-Shabaab militants.

Additionally, in June 2024,  Sanbaloolshe urged the Hawadle clan to renew their efforts against Al-Shabaab during a peace and security meeting in the Mahaas district of Hiiraan region. The meeting included various stakeholders, such as peacekeepers, intellectuals, academics, youth, women, businessmen, politicians, MPs, and officials, highlighting the importance of community unity in combating terrorism.

These initiatives reflect a broader commitment by Somali authorities to foster peace, security, and development in the region through collaboration with local communities and leaders.
