The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has warned the international community of possible famine in Somalia.
NRC issued the warning on April 7.
The nongovernmental organization (NGO) becomes the latest in a long list of around 60 NGOs to write to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on this issue.
NRC wrote a joint letter to the UN Secretary-General.
In the letter, NRC warns of the dangers facing more than 4.5 million people in Somalia due to the ongoing drought.
Shortage of food and water, as well as the death of livestock and loss of livelihoods, makes the Somalia situation quite precarious, NRC warned.
According to NRC, famine is a massive possibility in 2022.
It warns of the acute malnutrition that threatens the lives of around 1.4 million Somali children, who form around 50 percent of the country’s population who are under the age of 5 years.
