Number of IS Terrorists in Somalia Increased by 50% in 2024, Declares Security Expert

A security expert in Somalia believes that the number of IS terrorists in the country increased by 50 percent in 2024.

Brigadier General Abdi Hassan Hussein (Abdi Yare), a security expert and former intelligence and police chief of Puntland, has reported a significant increase of approximately 50% in the number of IS-Somalia fighters this year.

He also mentioned that IS-Somalia leader Abdulkadir Mumin likely survived the US airstrike conducted on May 31 in the Dhaadaar valley.

Many new recruits joining IS are Ethiopians.

This has forced the Ethiopian government to speak on the matter.

A spokesperson for the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the recruitment is not a “major concern”.
