Somalia’s Minister of Defense Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur has called Ethiopia’s pursuit of direct access to Somaliland ports a “daydream.”
Nur said this on Sunday evening.
His sentiments were in response to the recent comments by Tarekegn Bulcha.
Bulcha, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Industry, said that his nation would be the first one to recognize Somaliland as a sovereign country.
The agreement Somaliland and Ethiopia signed on January 1 this year grants the latter access to the former’s port.
It also guarantees that Ethiopia would recognize Somaliland’s sovereignty.
The agreement has created a huge diplomatic row between Ethiopia and Somalia.
Nur asserted that Somalia would continue opposing all attempts by Ethiopia or any other entity to annex part of its territory.
Somalia considers Somaliland part of its territory.
