The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has celebrated the decision by Somaliland authorities to release two journalists.
The journalists had been in detention since April 2022.
They were set free on Saturday, July 2.
The two journalists – Abdijibar Mohamed Hussein and Mohamed Abdi Sheikh – had been in detention in Hargeisa Central Prison.
Their freedom came courtesy of a decree by President Muse Bihi Abdi who granted them a presidential pardon.
Abdijibar and Mohamed were to serve 16 years’ imprisonment each.
They started serving their sentence on May 23, 2022.
