NUSOJ Condemns the Illegal Arrest of Goobjoog Journalist and Demand His Unconditional Release

Somalia’s National Union of Journalists (NUSOJ) has condemned the arrest of Abdiaziz Gurbiye, an editor working for the Googbjoog Media Group.

NUSOJ was scathing in its attack and condemnation of the decision by the government to arrest the journalist. It termed his arrest unlawful.

In a statement issued to the press, NUSOJ said, “Gurbiye’s arrest is not only unacceptable but also a clear violation of his constitutional rights to freedom of expression.”

Furthermore, its Secretary General, Omar Osman, insisted that the arrest signifies a return to the old laws, which criminalized the freedom of expression.

Secretary General Osman called the criminalization of a person’s freedom of expression “unacceptable.”

Further, Osman said all that has happened to Gurbiye remains incompatible with the new constitution.

NUSOJ went further to demand Gurbiye’s unconditional release from detention immediately without any further delay, too.
