NUSOJ Urges Authorities to Release Somali Journalist from Detention

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has called upon authorities to release a journalist who has been in detention for the last few days.

NUSOJ issued a statement on the continued detention of journalist Hashim Omar Hassan.

The statement dated December 5 shows that the journalist has been in detention since December 3 when authorities arrested him.

Hassan works for Shabelle Media Network.

Galmudug police officers who arrested the journalist are yet to file any charges against him.

Consequently, NUSOJ demanded his immediate and unconditional release from detention.

NUSOJ condemned the fact that authorities continue to make the journalist inaccessible to his family and professional colleagues.

Omar Faruk Osman, the Secretary-General of NUSOJ, urged authorities to either release or present Hassan before a competent court.
