The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has urged Somali leaders to create conducive environment for the media.
Omar Faruk Osman, the NUSOJ Secretary General, made this rallying call to leaders in the country on the eve of the International Day of Democracy.
He reminded leaders at the national and regional level that democracy can never thrive in the country in the absence of freedom of expression.
The Secretary General told the leaders that they can’t continue to sabotage media freedom.
Osman called for better political leadership and statesmanship to create the safe environment that players in the media industry need to work.
NUSOJ said that Somalia has experienced at least 14 cases of harassment, physical attacks, threats, and intimidation against journalists and other media players.
