OCHA Announces that Close to 850,000 Somali Children Face Acute Malnutrition

United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that close to 850,000 children in Somalia face acute malnutrition.

OCHA made this announcement in its monthly report for September 2020.

In the report, OCHA provides details of the activities that it has carried out in conjunction with other UN agencies in the East African nation.

Food insecurity has become a major problem in Somalia thus exposing 1.3 million people in the country to hunger and possible starvation.

Desert locusts that invaded the country since January 2020 have worsened the situation, according to the OCHA report.

Consequently, the organization has called international partners to contribute to the humanitarian assistance that the country needs.
