OCHA Lists Insecurity as Somalia’s Biggest Obstacle to Humanitarian Operations

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) listed insecurity as the biggest obstacle to humanitarian efforts in Somalia.

ON February 11, OCHA issued a statement talking about this issue in detail.

In its statement, OCHA mentioned that 255 insecurity incidences affected humanitarian agencies and officers in Somalia.

According to OCHA, all those incidents were limited to Somalia alone.

Furthermore, OCHA also cited the deaths of 15 humanitarian personnel as proof of the detrimental role that insecurity has on aid workers and agencies.

In OCHA’s estimates, the 255 incidents against aid workers were an increase of roughly 15 percent from 2019.

It urged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and relevant stakeholders to play their role in ensuring that humanitarian agencies operate in a safe and secure environment in Somalia.
