Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) has congratulated Somalia and Somaliland for resuming negotiations aimed at resolving the differences between them.
OIC’s General Secretariat issued a statement promising to throw its weight behind the efforts of President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti to facilitate talks between the two countries.
Somalia and Somaliland recently resumed their discussions in Djibouti under the facilitation of President Guelleh.
Previous attempts to bring the leaders of the two countries together – President Musa Bihi Abdi and President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somaliland and Somalia respectively – collapsed.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia was behind the efforts to bring Bihi and Farmaajo together to discuss differences between their two respective nations.
