One of the most famous football fans in Somalia has died at the age of 60 years.
Abukar Said Omar died at his Mogadishu home on the morning of Thursday, August 19 just before dawn.
Somali football fans affectionately called Omar “Awbaari.” They considered him the most prominent of all of them.
Awbaari was born in Mogadishu on February 1, 1961. For decades, he has supported Heegan Sports Club, which the Somali Police Force (SPF) own.
He was laid to rest on the morning of the same day he died.
Several top officials from the country’s football federation attended his funeral, which took place at the cemetery owned by the police in Mogadishu.
Abdiqani Said Arab, the President of Somali Football Federation (SFF), and Ali Abdi Mohamed, SFF’s Senior Vice President were at the funeral.
Football coaches, players, fans, and other stakeholders were present to bid him a final farewell too.
