Counterterrorism operations to eliminate Al-Shabaab insurgents from the Lower Shabelle region will kick off soon.
Military leaders based in Barawe announced this on Saturday.
Led by Abdirahman Ilmi Jimale, the military confirmed that the operations would commence within the next few days.
He added that the operations seek to reopen the roads in the region.
For years, Al-Shabaab has controlled the region.
Jimale added that the operations would then spread all the way to Galgadud where Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been for close to a month now.
