Opposition Candidates Condemn Deployment of Security Forces at Their Mogadishu Offices

The Council of Presidential Candidates has strongly condemned the decision by the government to deploy security officers at their Mogadishu offices.

Several security officers are currently deployed along Mogadishu Airport Road, where the opposition candidates’ have opened their offices.

As per a letter from the council, the officers are from Haram’ad Police Unit, a special-trained forces.

Haram’ad officers have been on the streets since Tuesday, December 15, attempting to quell the growing protests over delays in holding credible elections.

The officers reportedly shot at and killed several protestors on Tuesday while injuring many others.

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has declared a lockdown in the city.

Consequently, police officers have been deployed at various locations around the city to keep law and order while ensuring that a repeat of the earlier protests does not take place.

They have also been seen at the residence of ex-President Hassan Sheikh.
