The Council of the Presidential Candidates’ Union welcomed the decision by regional leaders from Galmudug and Puntland to mediate the elections impasse in Somalia.
Lately, the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has been at loggerheads with presidential candidates from the opposition over several aspects of the upcoming elections.
On Thursday, December 24, President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland agreed to mediate and find solutions for the differences pitting the government against the opposition.
Deni made this announcement jointly with President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor of Galmudug.
Later on the same day, the Council issued a press release commending Deni and Qoorqoor for taking leadership over this matter.
Specifically, they lauded Qoorqoor for “honoring the initial understanding that he had with the Council regarding election impasse.”
