Opposition Candidates Meet HirShabelle and Galmudug Leaders in Mogadishu

Opposition candidates held a night meeting with regional state leaders from HirShabelle and Galmudug on March 16.

The candidates, coalescing under the Council of Presidential Candidates’ Union (CPC), met with the regional leaders in Mogadishu to discuss ongoing electoral impasse.

Somalia has been unable to solve the months-long electoral impasse.

Meetings between different stakeholders have been held without much success.

The country’s international partners and diplomats have also intervened to solve the crisis unsuccessfully.

Recently, though, the government has demonstrated a willingness to sit with various stakeholders to iron out their differences.

Some of the opposition candidates present at the meeting included ex-presidents Hassan Sheikh and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.

Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire was also among those present in talks with HirShabelle’s President Ali Guudlaawe and Galmudug’s President Ahmed Qoorqoor.
