Opposition Leader Claims Farmaajo Sent Roble to Parliament to Negotiate Term Extension

An opposition leader has claimed that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo sent Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to parliament negotiate his term extension.

Prime Minister Roble visited the House of Representatives on February 8.

A message from the Office of the Prime Minister stated that Roble went to parliament to deliver a report on the government’s performance in the last 100 days.

However, Abdirahman Abdishakur, the leader of the opposition Wadajir Party, says that Roble’s real purpose in visiting the legislators was to negotiate an extension to Farmaajo’s term.

Farmaajo’s term expired on the midnight of February 8.

According to Abdishakur, opposition legislators blocked the move by the Prime Minister to convince Members of Parliament (MPs) to extend Farmaajo’s term in office.

He encouraged the international community to stop all interactions with Farmaajo.

Abdishakur warned members of the international community who continue to entertain Farmaajo to be ready to assume responsibility for the instability that would follow.
