A Somali opposition leader has welcomed the decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to proceed with the maritime case involving Kenya and Somalia.
Abdirahman Abdishakur, the leader of Wadajir Party, hailed the decision that was announced on February 13.
ICJ said that it would proceed with the case despite receiving a request from Kenya to postpone the case, which was to start on March 1, 2021.
Abdishakur said that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has no more excuse now to blame opposition parties for the failure of the case to proceed on schedule.
Furthermore, Abdishakur urged outgoing government leaders to cease using issues of national interest for political gains.
On this, he was referring to outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
The outgoing President has constantly used Somalia’s diplomatic spat with Kenya for his own political gains, according to Abdishakur and other opposition leaders in the country.
