Opposition parties in the regional state of Puntland have threatened a unilateral election in case President Said Abdullahi Deni extends his term in office.
Members of the opposition parties issued a warning in this regard on Wednesday.
They added that unilateral polls could take place after January 8, 2024.
According to the politicians, the elections would be held in case the polls that are scheduled on that date fail to take place.
Deni has already come under heavy criticism for attempting to extend his term in office.
Hassan Shire Abgaal, a former regional Minister of Finance, dropped a bombshell on Tuesday when he accused Deni of bribing parliamentarians as a means of silencing them.
