Opposition Parties Inform UNSC Farmaajo is Planning Assassinations

Opposition parties in Somalia have written a letter to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) accusing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of “planning assassinations.”

On February 22, the Council of Presidential Candidates’ Union wrote to Ms. Barbara Woodward, the President of the UNSC.

In their letter, the candidates asked UNSC to “intervene immediately” to prevent Somalia from complete collapse.

They also said that Somalia stands on the precipice of total disintegration.

Over the last one year, leaders in Somalia have failed to find solutions to the ongoing electoral impasse that has made it impossible for the country to hold elections.

Last Friday, Mogadishu was rocked by street battles and skirmishes as government troops dispersed opposition supporters who had organized anti-government demonstrations.

Further, the fact that the country has not held presidential elections despite Farmaajo’s term expiring on February 8 has not gone down well with the opposition candidates.
