Opposition Parties Warn of Political Turmoil in Somalia as Military Surround Ex-Leader’s House

The Forum for National Parties (FNP) has warned the Federal Government of Somalia that the country is at risk of political turmoil if the military do not stop their intimidation.

FNP leaders accused the administration of President Mohamed Farmaajo of antagonism against opposition leaders.

The government deployed its troops to monitor the movement of FNP leaders around the country.

On Tuesday, FNP said that Somali National Army (SNA) troops were seen around the residence of Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the former President of the Horn of Africa nation.

In a statement issued to the press on Tuesday, FNP claims the government is out to create “phobia” in its leaders and prevent the opposition from conducting proper campaigns.

Somalia is scheduled to go through general elections in late 2020.

Although government troops surround FNP’s premises, they are yet to make any arrest. No FNP leader has been forced or required to record an official statement with the authorities either.
