Opposition Party Leader Calls for Dialogue with Somaliland President

An opposition party leader has called for dialogue with President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland.

Faisal Warabe, the leader of the opposition UCID Party, made this call on Wednesday, November 16.

He said that dialogue between the opposition and government is the only solution for the ongoing stalemate.

Tension has gripped Somaliland for months over the decision to delay elections.

The breakaway region was to hold presidential elections on November 13, 2022.

However, the Somaliland electoral body postponed the polls citing the inability to prepare adequately for them.

The postponement caused a huge ruckus in Somaliland.

Opposition supporters took to the streets to protest the delayed polls. Several people lost their lives and many others suffered injuries.

Warabe’s call for dialogue comes in the wake of the announcement by the government prohibiting opposition parties from calling for protests throughout Somaliland.
