Opposition Politicians Delighted at Fresh Dhusamareb Talks on Elections

Opposition politicians in Somalia have expressed their delight at reports that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) are to hold fresh talks.

Late last week, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo announced that he would lead the government in talks with the regional state leaders from February 1-3.

Dhusamareb is the venue of the new round of talks.

Now, opposition politicians – under the Council of Presidential Candidates’ Union (CPCU) – have expressed their delight at the fresh talks to discuss elections impasse.

CPCU is a coalition of 14 presidential candidates from various opposition parties.

According to opposition politicians, the fresh talks are a “positive step” towards finding solutions to the ongoing electoral crisis.

The electoral crisis has seen elections postponed thrice.

Consequently, the opposition candidates are now more upbeat over the coming elections.
