Opposition Politicians Form Somalia National Leadership Council

Opposition politicians in Somalia have now formed the National Leadership Council (NLC).

The politicians announced the formation of the Council on December 12.

They met in Mogadishu on Sunday and expressed fears over the ongoing House of the People (Lower House) elections, which they have described as “fraudulent.”

In their view, the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) is unable to hold credible polls.

While forming the new Council, the politicians stated that it would not have any representative from the FGS.

The opposition politicians said that the Council’s membership would include all national decision makers.

It’s their hope that the formation and membership of the Council would help lead Somalia to credible elections.
