Opposition Politicians Warn Lower House Speaker against Disrespecting Roble

Opposition politicians in Somalia have issued a warning to Mohamed Mursal against disrespecting Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

The Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC) released a statement on September 11 urging Speaker Mursal of the Lower House to cease demeaning Prime Minister Roble.

Lately, Speaker Mursal has come out strongly against some of Roble’s recent decisions.

He opposed the decision by Prime Minister Roble to fire Fahad Yasin, the immediate former Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

Roble fired Yasin as part of his efforts to get to the bottom of the murder of a young female NISA agent, Ikran Tahlil.

The Prime Minister later fired Hassan Hundubey Jimale as the Minister of Internal Security.

Speaker Mursal accused Prime Minister of acting outside his constitutional mandate.

According to CPC, Prime Minister is well within his rights to seek justice for Tahlil’s family. Therefore, the opposition leaders told Mursal to “cease sabotaging Roble’s constitutional mandate.”

Their comments follow recent reports that Speaker Mursal plans to summon MPs from their recess to stop Roble from launching independent investigations into Tahlil’s murder.
