Two key ministers in Somaliland’s government have resigned from their positions and thrown their support behind Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, the presidential candidate of the opposition WADDANI party.
Those who resigned and threw their support behind Irro’s candidature are Nasir Aydid Mohamed and Mohamed Elmi Yusuf.
Nasir is a former Deputy Minister of Fisheries whe Yusuf served as the Deputy Minister of Education.
This move adds significant momentum to the opposition’s campaign as they prepare for the upcoming presidential election.
The resignations come amid growing dissatisfaction with President Muse Bihi Abdi’s administration, which faces accusations of failing to address economic challenges.
Irro, who is seen as a rising figure in Somaliland politics, has gained widespread popularity, further intensifying the competition in the lead-up to the election scheduled for November 13, 2024.
