Opposition politicians have said that election security should be a preserve of the Somali Police Force (SPF).
Speaking through the Council of Presidential Candidates Union, the politicians said that such a sensitive task should not be in the hands of Harma’ad Unit.
Furthermore, they ruled out delegating election security to African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
In their view, AMISOM is partial.
The politicians recently accused AMISOM of siding with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
Harma’ad unit has been accused of being behind the violence meted out against opposition politicians and supporters on February 19 in Mogadishu.
The council of opposition candidates is of the opinion that election security is just as critical as the other electoral issues under discussion by different stakeholders.
