Outrage in Mogadishu as Hospitals Charge $30 for COVID-19 Certificates

Residents of Mogadishu and visitors arriving in Somalia’s capital city are outraged at the decision by hospitals to charge $30 for each COVID-19 certificate.

Recent announcement by the Federal Government of Somalia through the Ministry of Health require each traveler to display a COVID-19 certificate.

However, based on the huge uproar in the area, it seems that hospitals have taken advantage of this announcement to make a kill.

Their outrage is worsened by the fact that the World Bank donated $137.5 million in May 2020 to help Somalia respond to the novel coronavirus.

World Bank released that donation with the understanding that the government of President Mohamed Farmaajo would be testing residents and visitors alike at no charge.

Further reports indicate that each non-Somalia visitor is required to pay as much as $400 for a COVID-19 test and certificate.
