Over 40 Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in Hiiraan Operation

Hiiraan, Somalia – In a major counter-terrorism operation, more than 40 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in the Hiiraan region, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The offensive was carried out jointly by the Somali National Army (SNA), the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), and international security partners.

The operation targeted Al-Shabaab hideouts and logistical hubs in remote areas of Hiiraan, a region that has seen an uptick in militant activity in recent months.

According to military sources, key commanders were among those killed, dealing a blow to the group’s operational capabilities.

“This operation demonstrates our commitment to eradicating terrorism from Somali soil,” a senior security official stated. He added that no civilian casualties were reported during the assault.

International partners praised the coordination and precision of the mission, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration in Somalia’s fight against violent extremism.

This is one of the largest offensives in Hiiraan this year and is part of a broader campaign to clear central regions of insurgents ahead of ATMIS’s transition to the Somali-led AUSSOM mission.
