The federal parliament has established a 5-member committee of legislators to review the newly proposed electoral model.
Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor Madobe, the Speaker of the House of the People, announced the formation of the committee on Friday.
The committee’s main priority is to review the agreement recently announced during the last National Consultative Council (NCC) in Mogadishu.
Participants at the NCC agreed to embrace a universal suffrage electoral model that would be a departure from the indirect elections Somalia opted for over the last few elections.
Further, they also settled on elections after every five years.
Members of the committee include Mohamed Farah Nuh, Abdisamed Mohamud Hassan Farah, Mohamud Abdikadir Haji, Abdullahi Abdi Mohamed, and Mukhtar Mohamed Guled.
