Mogadishu — Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum, Dahir Shire, convened a high-level meeting today in Mogadishu with key Somali oil traders to address the implementation of downstream regulations aimed at ensuring fuel quality standards across the country.
During the discussions, Shire emphasized the government’s priority to improve the petroleum sector through the enforcement of regulatory frameworks that guarantee safety, reliability, and quality in fuel distribution and retail.
He stressed that collaborative efforts between the government and private sector players are crucial for long-term development.
“We remain committed to working together with oil traders to develop the country’s petroleum sector,” the minister stated, noting the importance of trust, accountability, and sustainable practices in building a resilient energy economy.
Participants at the meeting welcomed the government’s initiative, expressing readiness to comply with new standards and work hand-in-hand with the ministry to address logistical and infrastructural challenges in the sector.
This move comes as part of the broader reform efforts underway to modernize Somalia’s energy industry and attract investment while safeguarding consumer interests and the environment.
