Phaesun Receives International Awards for Installing Solar in Somaliland

Phaesun, a Somaliland solar company, has received two international awards that recognize its incredible contribution in solar installations around the country.

On June 30, the firm installed a water desalination system powered by solar in Beyo Gulan, a Somali village.

Consequently, it was awarded the Energy Globe Award and the SmarterE Award.

Phaesun’s global recognition is because of the type of technology that it relies on for installing solar around the region.

Together with its partners, the company has created a solar-based water desalination system that runs on electrodialysis technology.

In 2018, it installed the first of eight pilot plants in Beyo Gulan.

Since then, that first plant has been responsible for supplying locals with up to 2,000 liters of clean water for drinking every day.

Before that, the more than 300 villagers had relied on untreated well water, which has a high salt content, for their drinking needs.

Phaesun has now installed similar plants around the globe, especially in Africa and Asia.
