Somali PM Barre Holds Talks with Saudi Envoy on Investment and Aid Cooperation

Mogadishu, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre welcomed the Saudi Ambassador to Somalia, Ahmed Bin Mohamed Salah Al-Muwallad, for a diplomatic meeting at his office on Thursday.

The talks focused on strengthening the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries, with emphasis on enhancing economic collaboration and advancing development projects.

The discussions allowed both officials to assess ongoing cooperation in security, economic investment, and social sectors.

A key goal was to find ways to expedite Saudi-funded development projects, ensuring immediate benefits for the Somali population.

Prime Minister Barre conveyed the federal government’s appreciation for the continuous support from Riyadh. He highlighted how Saudi Arabia has consistently stood alongside the Somali government and people during difficult times.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister stressed the need to shift from aid to trade. He called for greater Saudi investment in Somalia’s essential infrastructure, which he described as crucial for economic recovery and lasting stability.

With Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) in attendance, the meeting also examined humanitarian issues.

The conversation covered Saudi Arabia’s significant role in providing emergency aid to communities impacted by climate-related disasters.

Both sides agreed on the importance of coordinated efforts to assist vulnerable populations still affected by severe droughts.

Amb. Al-Muwallad confirmed the Kingdom’s dedication to its strategic partnership with Somalia.

He assured the Prime Minister that Saudi Arabia intends to increase its support, both through humanitarian assistance and by launching new development initiatives that align with Somalia’s national objectives.

Also present at the meeting were Kamal Dahir Guutaale, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, and other high-ranking government officials.
