PM Barre Attends 2nd Joint EAC-SADC Summit Virtually

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre participated in the 2nd Joint East African Community (EAC)–Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit virtually.

His involvement underscores Somalia’s steadfast dedication to fostering peace, security, and regional cooperation.

Somalia’s engagement in such high-level dialogues is particularly significant following its admission into the EAC bloc on November 24, 2023, and its attainment of full membership on March 4, 2024.

The Joint EAC-SADC Summit serves as a platform for member states to collaborate on regional challenges, with a notable focus on addressing the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

During the summit, leaders deliberated on merging the Luanda and Nairobi processes to enhance peace-building efforts in the eastern DRC.

Somalia’s active involvement in these regional initiatives reflects its commitment to contributing to collective efforts aimed at promoting stability and development across the African continent.
