On April 13, 2025, in Las Anod, Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre extended an invitation to the leader of SSC-Khaatumo, Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali Firdhiye, to participate in the upcoming National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting scheduled for May 1–2, 2025, in Mogadishu.
This invitation marks a significant development in Somalia’s political landscape, reflecting efforts to include SSC-Khaatumo — a region that has sought greater recognition within Somalia’s federal framework — in national decision-making processes. Previously, in May 2024, Firdhiye attended an NCC summit for the first time, where he addressed the council on the situation in SSC-Khatumo areas and emphasized the need for the region to obtain its constitutional rights from the Federal Government of Somalia.
The inclusion of SSC-Khaatumo in the NCC meetings underscores the federal government’s commitment to fostering unity and addressing the concerns of all regions within Somalia. It also highlights the ongoing efforts to resolve internal conflicts through dialogue and inclusive governance.
The forthcoming NCC meeting is expected to address critical national issues, including security, constitutional reforms, and humanitarian efforts. Firdhiye’s participation will provide an opportunity for SSC-Khaatumo to contribute to these discussions and advocate for the region’s interests at the national level.
