PM Barre Launches a Fishing Development Project in Mogadishu

The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, inaugurated the Badmaal Project, a Sustainable Fisheries Development initiative supported by the World Bank, in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

The project, which is a product of the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy, aims to achieve three key objectives.

First, it seeks to increase the capacity of dependent communities to benefit from sustainable marine fisheries, which will provide better opportunities for economic growth and food security.

Two, it will strengthen marine fisheries governance and management thus ensuring that the resources are used sustainably and that regulations are in place to protect marine ecosystems.

Three, it is ideal for project management monitoring and evaluation, which will focus on ensuring effective implementation and accountability throughout the project’s lifecycle.

This initiative is a major step toward promoting sustainable fisheries in Somalia, benefiting coastal communities and contributing to the country’s economic development.
