Mogadishu, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of a major road in Wadajir District’s Buulo-Xuubey neighborhood, marking another step in the government’s drive to modernize Mogadishu’s infrastructure and improve residents’ daily lives.
The nearly two-kilometer stretch, once riddled with potholes and dust, will be rebuilt into a paved, well-drained roadway connecting several busy residential and commercial zones. The project is expected to ease movement for thousands of commuters and small traders who rely on the route to access schools, markets, and health facilities.
Beyond improving transport, the initiative will also inject new energy into the local economy. Hundreds of young people are set to gain temporary employment during construction, while nearby shops and suppliers are expected to benefit from increased business activity. Local authorities say the effort forms part of broader urban renewal plans aimed at restoring Mogadishu’s long-neglected infrastructure and public spaces.
