Mogadishu, Somalia – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre returned to Mogadishu on Friday after concluding official visits to China and Serbia, where he pursued stronger partnerships to support Somalia’s development and international standing.
In China, Barre participated in the 7th China-Arab States Expo, presenting Somalia as an emerging hub for investment and strategic cooperation. He underscored opportunities in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and digital innovation, while holding talks with senior Chinese officials and investors keen on expanding engagement with Somalia.
The Prime Minister also emphasized Somalia’s role as a gateway between Africa and the Arab world, stressing the importance of deepening trade, technology transfer, and cultural exchanges under the Belt and Road framework.
Following his China mission, Barre traveled to Belgrade, where he met Serbian Prime Minister Duro Macut. The two leaders discussed enhancing bilateral relations in education, security, and economic cooperation. They agreed to establish stronger institutional ties and explore joint initiatives that could accelerate Somalia’s modernization efforts.
Government officials said Barre’s trip demonstrated Somalia’s commitment to diversifying partnerships and expanding diplomatic horizons. The visits are expected to pave the way for fresh investments and collaborative programs as Somalia works to rebuild its economy and strengthen global alliances.
