PM Barre Tells EAC-SADC Summit That Somalia Stands with DRC

At Tuesday’s 2nd Joint East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit, regional leaders, including Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, emphasized their collective commitment to peace, security, and regional cooperation.

The summit focused on addressing the ongoing conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with leaders agreeing to merge the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes to enhance diplomatic efforts.

Somalia’s dedication to regional stability is further demonstrated by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s recent engagement with South Sudanese leaders where he expressed full solidarity with the people of South Sudan and underscored the importance of dialogue and cooperation to prevent further escalation of tensions.

These actions reflect Somalia’s proactive role in supporting inclusive and credible efforts aimed at resolving conflicts and fostering peace within the region.
