MOGADISHU — Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, attended a special ceremony recognizing participants of the “Daaci 2026” initiative, a national program focused on empowering youth to advance positive values, religious awareness, and social responsibility throughout Somali communities.
Empowering Youth and Ethical Values
Organized under the overarching theme “Somali Telling Her Story,” the high-profile event celebrated young individuals acknowledged for their exceptional efforts in enhancing community awareness and promoting ethical values. The Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation to all honorees, praising their steadfast commitment to developing a culture of integrity and social unity.
In his keynote address, Prime Minister Hamza highlighted the profound significance of meaningful work in achieving both worldly achievements and spiritual growth. He stated that professionals across various fields—such as business leaders, journalists, politicians, and academics—share a collective duty in establishing a fair and principled society.
He also identified critical national issues, including tribalism, corruption, terrorism, external interference, and the decline of traditional cultural values. The Prime Minister cautioned that these severe challenges endanger Somalia’s unity and future stability.
Digital Channels for Social Progress
Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized the rapidly increasing role of technology and social media as instruments for positive impact. He strongly encouraged young Somalis to actively use digital channels to disseminate knowledge, foster constructive dialogue, and proactively counter content that disrupts peace and progress.
The “Daaci 2026” program represents continuous national strategies by the federal government to involve young people as primary agents of social progress and national reconstruction.
Assurances on Baidoa Security and Elections
Shifting to the current domestic political landscape, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre took the opportunity to officially confirm that federal security forces are fully ensuring stability in Baidoa, the temporary capital of South West State.
Following the recent federal military takeover and the negotiated resignation of the regional president, the Prime Minister provided firm assurances against any retaliatory measures. He emphasized that the popular will would be strictly honored, allowing citizens to freely choose their regional representatives through democratic processes, a pledge that aligns closely with ongoing federal efforts to oversee a peaceful political transition in the region.
