PM Hamza Meets Diplomats to Boost National Defense

MOGADISHU — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has intensified diplomatic engagements this week, hosting senior delegations from allied nations, including a high-level strategic meeting with the Ambassador of China.

The gatherings are part of a continuous government initiative to bolster the nation’s defense capabilities and reinforce international support for Somalia’s territorial integrity.

Strengthening Ties with Beijing

On Saturday, Prime Minister Barre received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Wang Yu, at his office in Mogadishu. The talks centered on advancing cooperation in critical areas such as security, commerce, and economic infrastructure.

During the deliberations, Ambassador Wang Yu reaffirmed Beijing’s steadfast support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty. He assured the Prime Minister that China plans to augment its backing for the Federal Government, particularly regarding security assistance and direct investment.

“China considers Somalia a vital partner in the Horn of Africa and is eager to witness this relationship produce concrete outcomes,” Ambassador Wang stated.

Response to Diplomatic Challenges

Government officials characterized these recent diplomatic interactions as a direct response to what they termed an “overt attack by Israel on Somalia’s unity,” referring to the recent recognition of Somaliland by Tel Aviv.

Prime Minister Barre emphasized that building stronger ties with major global partners like China is crucial as the country navigates this period. He reiterated Somalia’s dedication to international legal frameworks that uphold the sovereignty of autonomous nations and prohibit interference in domestic affairs.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to sustain regular communication to facilitate the prompt execution of the discussed infrastructure and security initiatives.
