Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has directed the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation to urgently address poor hygiene and technical faults at Adan Abdulle International Airport, the country’s busiest aviation hub.
The order followed the Prime Minister’s inspection tour of the terminal on Tuesday, during which he assessed passenger facilities and the general state of the airport. He noted that sanitary conditions in the terminal fall below acceptable standards and that several luggage conveyor belts are in disrepair, causing unnecessary delays for travelers.
PM Barre stressed that immediate corrective measures are needed to improve the travel experience for passengers, enhance safety, and uphold the reputation of the airport as Somalia’s main international gateway. He instructed Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation to ensure that maintenance work and cleaning services are reinforced without delay.
Adan Abdulle International Airport, located in Mogadishu, is a critical infrastructure for Somalia’s connectivity to the world. It serves as the entry point for government officials, diplomats, humanitarian agencies, and private travelers. Despite recent security upgrades and expansions, frequent complaints about maintenance, service delays, and facility management have persisted.
The Prime Minister’s directive is expected to push for swift improvements, signaling the government’s determination to modernize national infrastructure and boost public confidence in state institutions.
