PM Receives Maritime Report, Endorses Ship Registration

MOGADISHU — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of Somalia has officially accepted a comprehensive technical report from the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport detailing the nation’s critical advancements in enhancing its vital maritime sector.

Modernizing Vessel Documentation

The strategic document was formally delivered to the Prime Minister’s office by Ports and Maritime Transport Minister Abdikadir Mohamed Nur, who was accompanied by a specialized team of ministry technical experts. The report prominently showcased the implementation of a contemporary, standardized framework for documenting all vessels operating under Somali authority.

According to the new administrative guidelines, all registered vessels will be strictly required to display official national identification while navigating domestic and international waters. This aggressive push for strict regulatory compliance directly supports the Federal Government’s wider strategic efforts to modernize fundamental economic sectors, closely mirroring recent diplomatic initiatives aimed at integrating Somalia into the global economic and trade system.

Escaping the Maritime Blacklist

During the executive briefing, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre highly praised the ministry’s leadership and technical staff for their diligent work in improving national maritime governance. He stressed that a secure, well-regulated, and transparent maritime sector is of crucial significance to Somalia’s long-term economic expansion.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister stated that fully executing the new centralized documentation system will be vital in permanently eliminating Somalia from the international maritime blacklist. He explicitly instructed federal officials to immediately accelerate the system’s deployment and ensure its prompt, uniform implementation across all national ports.

By overhauling its maritime governance, the Federal Government aims to significantly boost its international credibility, attract robust foreign maritime investment, and finally realize the immense economic potential of Somalia’s extensive coastline.
