Police End 8 Hours Al-Shabaab Siege at Mogadishu’s Afrik Hotel

Somali Police Force (SPF) officers ended a siege lasting 8 hours by Al-Shabaab at the Afrik Hotel in Mogadishu.

The extremists raided Afrik Hotel in the nation’s capital on January 31.

According to authorities, SPF officers ended the siege that caused the deaths of 9 individuals at the establishment.

Afrik Hotel is quite popular with some of Somalia’s dignitaries.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for Sunday’s daring attack.

The militants stated that they targeted government officers who frequent the popular hotel near Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.

While announcing the end of the siege, police sources claimed that four Al-Shabaab militants were behind the attack.

Security forces shot and killed three of the militants, including a suicide bomber.
