Somali police prevented militants from launching a bomb attack in Southwest State’s capital of Baidoa on October 26.
Security sources indicate that local police arrested two members of Al-Shabaab in the city.
A tip off from members of the public led to the capture of the militants.
Baidoa is a strategic city in Southwest State. It is manned by the Ethiopian contingent of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
At the time of their arrest, the militants were on the verge of planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along one of the city’s main streets.
Ahmed Ali, a senior police officer, confirmed that the incident took place on Monday.
He also mentioned that a bomb detonation squad had been deployed to the area to dismantle the landmine.
